Staysure enhances cover to support holidaymakers on NHS waitlists
Around 6.2 million people are currently on UK National Health Service waiting lists, many of whom have struggled to secure travel insurance due to undiagnosed symptoms
UK travel insurer Staysure has introduced a policy update to better support holidaymakers awaiting diagnosis for medical conditions, addressing a gap that previously left many without viable travel cover.
Under previous terms, any pending diagnosis meant all pre-existing conditions were excluded, limiting protection or forcing travellers to go without cover altogether.
Staysure’s revised approach allows customers to insure diagnosed pre-existing conditions, with only claims relating solely to undiagnosed symptoms excluded. The change provides greater flexibility and peace of mind to travellers in diagnostic limbo.
Simon McCulloch, Chief Growth Officer at Staysure, said: “This is a meaningful change for many of our customers who have been stuck in a frustrating waiting game with the NHS. Innovating our underwriting practices for the benefit of many who have previously struggled to get the protection they need is just another way in which we continue to adapt to the changing times. We want to give these travellers the confidence to go ahead with their holiday plans while still receiving the protection they deserve for their diagnosed pre-existing medical conditions. By refining our cover in this way, we’re continuing to put customer needs at the centre of our business.”
Customers can access the updated policy online or by phone, supported by a new questionnaire that clarifies how undiagnosed symptoms are treated.
Maggie’s, a cancer charity, recently warned that the system is failing those who are medically fit but financially excluded.
