Sri Lanka launches new digital nomad visa
The visa is available to remote-working over-18s with a minimum monthly income of US$2,000 per month
The Indian Ocean island nation Sri Lanka has launched a new digital nomad visa, enabling foreign knowledge workers to live on the island for up to 12 months.
The visa is applicable to workers aged over 18 who have a minimum monthly income of US$2,000, proof of remote employment or freelance contracts with employers based outside of Sri Lanka, and comprehensive health insurance.
The visa includes an option to renew once, for an additional year, and allows visa holders to bring their spouse and dependents with them.
The visa can be obtained via the Sri Lanka Department of Immigration and Emigration mobile app, or in-person at the Department’s offices in Colombo.
The visa is expected to be attractive to a growing number of Indian remote workers, due to high levels of connectivity between Sri Lanka and its northern neighbour.
Sri Lankan firm Assetline Insurance Brokers recently announced a new partnership with telecommunications firm Hutch Sri Lanka.
