Singapore opens to vaccinated tourists
Singapore has begun quarantine-free entry for fully vaccinated passengers from eight countries, as part of a plan to ease restrictions
This came as its health ministry reported 3,994 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, the highest since the beginning of the pandemic, while it recorded seven new deaths from the disease.
The latest easing expanded a programme that began with vaccinated air travel lanes with Germany and Brunei last month and is now open to passengers from the US, Canada, Britain, Denmark, France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands.
High vaccination rate among population
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore noted that only two Covid-19 cases were detected among the 1,926 people from Germany that participated in the programme thus far.
About 83 per cent of the population in Singapore is fully vaccinated, one of the world’s highest rates.
Meanwhile, the island-state has insisted that visiting travellers from select destinations have a minimum cover for Covid-19-related medical expenses of S$30,000.
