US domestic travel

US travel insurer Seven Corners launched a new plan to aid customers who are travelling domestically

The plan, Get Away USA, starts with a domestic trip cancellation and interruption base plan and offers customers a variety of options to create a custom coverage plan best suited to their individual needs.

“As Covid-19 guidelines continue to be a factor in everyday life, Seven Corners remains committed to our customers and their travel needs,” said Jeremy Murchland, Seven Corners President. “With Covid-19 being so unpredictable, we feel users should have access to a customisable trip protection plan. We want them to feel a sense of control over their insurance, despite other aspects of travel constantly changing.”

Add-ons to the base plan include both individual options and bundles. Those who opt for the air travel bundle receive coverage for trip delay, baggage and personal effects, baggage delay and specially selected travel inconveniences. The baggage bundle includes coverage for baggage and personal effects and baggage delay.

Coverage for medical expenses

The medical bundle provides coverage for emergency accident and medical expense, emergency dental expense, and emergency medical evacuation and repatriation of remains. Additional add-on options include coverage for Cancel for Any Reason, Interruption for Any Reason, rental car damage, sports equipment rental, and event ticket registration fee protection.

Seven Corners added the travel inconvenience benefits based on a survey of domestic travellers where 64 per cent of respondents saw value in receiving a US$150 payment for inconveniences like flight diversion and missing work. Flight diversion applies if the traveller’s flight arrives at a different airport than the original ticketed destination. The missing work benefit pays $150 if the airline causes a traveller’s arrival at their return destination to be delayed two or more days, which, in turn causes a traveller to miss work.

Recently, Seven Corners released data trends related to current patterns of domestic and international travel compared to pre-pandemic years.
