Prudential launches PRUChoice Travel Lite for Greater Bay Area trips

Prudential General Insurance Hong Kong has launched PRUChoice Travel Lite, a short-haul travel protection plan aimed at the growing number of Hong Kong residents making frequent trips into China’s Greater Bay Area (GBA).

The one- to three-day policy is designed for journeys including shopping, visiting friends and relatives, weekend breaks, and attending entertainment and sporting events. It has no age limit and provides the same maximum benefits to all insured persons.

The launch comes as cross-border travel continues to increase. Hong Kong resident departures to Shenzhen through six major boundary control points exceeded 45.7 million in the first half of 2026, up 10.5% year on year, according to Hong Kong’s Census and Statistics Department.

The policy provides up to HK$100,000 (US$12,750) each for medical expenses and personal accident, while 24-hour emergency assistance includes medical evacuation and repatriation. Other benefits cover lost travel documents, event cancellation, and personal liability, each subject to stated limits.

Prudential said the product complements its Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicles Insurance Scheme, which provides protection for customers driving between Hong Kong and Guangdong Province.

A HK$50 premium discount promotion is available for eligible enrolments through Prudential’s online shop until 30 September, subject to terms and conditions.
