Portugal named best country in the world
Portugal was named Condé Nast Traveller’s best country in the world 2021, as voted for by thousands of readers
Portugal has long been a favourite with international visitors. In 2019, the capital city of Lisbon was the most-visited location in the country, attracting some 5.9 million international tourists, while the southern Algarve region came second. The Algarve’s stunning beaches and world-class golfing facilities attracted just shy of 3.6 million international visitors in 2019, as well as nearly 1.5 million domestic tourists.
Divia Thani, director of Condé Nast Traveller, commented: “As travel restrictions are reduced it is becoming clear that our readers have been spending a large part of the last year and a half dreaming about trips and planning adventures. The diversity and vibe from the winners of our Readers’ Choice Award represents a desire to travel around the world and experience the best that the travel industry has to offer.”
