Portugal’s national tourism authority Turismo de Portugal has launched a travel insurance scheme for foreign tourists that covers Covid-19 related claims

Visitors who are planning their holidays in Portugal can now acquire Portugal Travel Insurance, a policy adapted to the new reality the pandemic has brought about. The initiative is promoted by RNA Seguros de Assistência, and is available online.

Coverage extends to the entire national territory and covers, among others, medical, surgical, pharmaceutical and hospital expenses associated with Covid-19, as well as cancellation, interruption or extension expenses, also due to the pandemic. The objective is ‘to guarantee, to all who visit Portugal, that they can travel around the country, safe and with confidence’, according to a statement made by the organisation.

This is yet another initiative that Turismo de Portugal is disseminating to international markets to strengthen the security of the destination, which comes in addition to the creation of the Clean&Safe Seal and the renewal of the Portugal Health Passport, which now includes tests for Covid-19 available to all who visit the country.

Tourists planning to come to Portugal can sign up for free at the Health Passport through the site PortugalHealthPassport. This gives them the chance to obtain a test for Covid-19 and access the previously fixed prices for urgent healthcare or check-ups of five different types, in the network of hospitals and clinics belonging to CU, Hospital da Luz, HPA Saúde and Lusíadas, throughout the national territory.

Through initiatives and projects of this nature, Portugal is consolidating its position as a safe destination that guarantees all the essential sanitary conditions for the enjoyment of the tourist experiences it offers. This could be an effective way forward for countries that rely heavily on the tourism industry.
