Philips opens sleep disorder treatment centres in the Middle East
The global health tech company has partnered with the Middle East Healthcare Company (MEAHCO) to provide solutions to patients suffering from sleep-related disorders in the region
MEAHCO owns and operates the Saudi-German Health Group (SGH Group). Through the three-year agreement signed between Philips and MEAHCO, SHG Group hospitals will have access to the latest tech for managing sleep difficulties, and so patients visiting the hospitals will be able to obtain enhanced, high-quality treatment for a range of sleep disorders.
Among those sleep disorders are obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) – a highly prevalent and under-diagnosed disease worldwide, and one that has no doubt been further exacerbated by the global pandemic. Having access to quality treatment for sleep disorders such as this improves patients’ quality of life and reduces their risk of developing serious health issues.
“The cumulative long-term effects of sleep loss and sleep disorders have been associated with a wide range of deleterious health consequences including an increased risk of hypertension, diabetes, obesity, depression, heart attack, and stroke,” said Mohamed Sindi, CEO of Philips Healthcare Saudi Arabia. “Our strategic partnership with Middle East Healthcare Company for sleep disorder management services will bring state-of-the-art Philips solutions to the Kingdom and improve the overall quality of the patients, leading to better lives.”
In May 2020, Hospitals & Healthcare reported on a study conducted by Benenden Health in the UK that linked sleep problems to a rise in anxiety and other mental health problems, as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
