Philippines to reopen borders
International tourism will resume from the 10 of February for fully vaccinated travellers
The tourism secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat has announced that from next month, the Philippines will be welcoming tourists once again. Leisure travellers will no longer need to quarantine upon arrival as long as they show proof of a negative PCR test completed within 48 hours of departure and a valid Covid-19 vaccination certificate.
Borders will be open to all foreign nationals from visa-free countries that have at least six months on their passport and have purchased their outbound flight leaving the Philippines.
Tourism to help economic recovery
“The department sees this as a welcome development that will contribute significantly to job restoration, primarily in tourism-dependent communities, and in the reopening of businesses that have earlier shut down during the pandemic,’’ said Puyat.
“With years of coordination between national agencies, industry stakeholders, and the various local government units (LGUs) to prepare our destinations for tourism in the new normal, we are confident that we will be able to keep pace with our ASEAN(Association of Southeast Asian Nations) neighbours who have already made similar strides to reopen to foreign tourists.”
Covid-19 health and safety measures to be followed
“We are also aware that there is no room for complacency given the unpredictability of the virus. We will closely monitor the situation and ensure that health and safety protocols are strictly implemented in all tourism establishments,” concluded Puyat.
