Over half of Americans are planning a summer trip
US travellers are planning their summer travel further in advance – but booking later
Generali Global Assistance (GGA) has released the US findings from the 2024 Ipsos Holiday Barometer.
The study, conducted between 27 March and 22 April 2024 on behalf of GGA’s parent company Europ Assistance, surveyed 1,000 residents in 21 countries.
In the US, it found that of those surveyed, 57% said that they intended to travel this summer (June to September).
Additionally, it found that US travellers were planning further in advance for the summer travel season – with almost 70% of those Americans planning to travel this summer making plans at least two months in advance.
Despite this, the report also found that they were waiting longer to make bookings – seemingly with the aim of remaining flexible – with only 39% of those travelling having booked their trips at the time of the survey.
Domestic travel still dominates
Americans “overwhelmingly” still choose to travel domestically, with over 56% of those surveyed saying their ideal vacation was within the United States. Only 21% preferred a trip abroad.
The average budget of American travellers this year is $4,199 – the second highest average budget in the world behind the Swiss. However, inflation was a major concern among 87% of US travellers.
Other concerns included lingering worries about Covid-19, as well as various armed conflicts around the world.
Europ Assistance Italy recently renewed its partnership with Costa Cruises.
