Naples International Airport to suspend all flights for November as runway works begin
Airlines are adjusting schedules and redirecting services, with passengers facing changes to itineraries and onward travel arrangements across southern Italy
Naples International Airport will suspend all commercial flights throughout November as a major runway refurbishment programme gets underway, disrupting air travel to one of Italy’s busiest tourism destinations.
Airport operator GESAC confirmed that Naples Capodichino Airport would close from 1 to 30 November 2026 to allow extensive work on its runway and associated infrastructure.
The closure will affect airlines serving the city, including Ryanair, easyJet, and Aer Lingus, with some services being transferred to alternative airports.
Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport, south of Naples, will accommodate some displaced flights, while other services are being redirected through Rome or cancelled.
To support affected passengers, GESAC has arranged eight daily shuttle departures in each direction between Naples’ Piazza Garibaldi and Salerno Airport, with tickets costing €12 per journey.
Naples Airport handles approximately 13 million passengers annually and serves as a major gateway to the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, and other popular destinations in southern Italy.
The temporary shutdown could create additional complications for travellers with connecting flights, pre-booked transfers, and accommodation arrangements.
Travellers affected by cancellations or airport changes may be entitled to alternative transport or refunds from their airline, while reimbursement of additional expenses will depend on the circumstances and applicable policy terms.
Passengers travelling to southern Italy during November are being advised to check their flight status, departure airport, and onward transport arrangements before travelling.
