In memoriam: Francisco ‘Curro’ Rico

The international healthcare community mourns the loss of Miranza’s Commercial and International Business Director, who died in last week’s train collision in Spain

Francisco ‘Curro’ Rico, Commercial and International Business Director at Spanish ophthalmology group Miranza, has sadly passed away following the train accident near Toledo, Spain, on 28 October.

Rico was among 69 people who lost their lives in the tragedy.

A valued member of Miranza’s team, Rico was remembered by his colleagues not only for his professional contribution, but also for the warmth, friendship, and kindness he brought to those around him.

In a heartfelt tribute, Miranza described him as an inseparable part of its family, whose presence had left a lasting impression on the organisation and the people who worked alongside him.

“Beyond any professional role, Curro was, above all, a companion in life within our company, an unconditional friend, and an inseparable part of our family throughout all these years,” the company said.

Miranza also remembered his constant smile and the close relationships he had built with colleagues over the years.

“It is difficult to find words to express the grief and the void his absence leaves behind, because Curro was part of our team, our history, and our daily lives,” the company added.

His colleagues reflected on the memories, conversations, laughter, and shared experiences that had shaped their time together, expressing their gratitude for having known and worked alongside him.

Rico’s passing is a profound loss to his colleagues and those who knew him across the international healthcare sector.

ITIJ extends its sincere condolences to Rico’s family, friends, and colleagues, as well as to the loved ones of all those who lost their lives in the accident.
