Manulife brings travel insurance quotes to ChatGPT
As AI becomes part of the travel-planning journey, the new service brings insurance into the conversation earlier, helping Canadian travellers assess their protection needs before they book
Manulife has launched a new CoverMe plugin in ChatGPT, allowing eligible Canadians to explore travel insurance and receive a personalised quote directly within the artificial intelligence (AI) platform.
The insurer said the launch was the first travel insurance plugin of its kind in ChatGPT and its first ChatGPT plugin globally, reflecting the growing role of AI-powered tools in travel research and planning.
Customers can enable the Manulife plugin and answer questions about their trip. ChatGPT then generates a personalised travel insurance quote, with customers directed to CoverMe.com to complete their application and purchase. Travellers requiring additional information or coverage options will also be referred to CoverMe for a more tailored quote.
The initiative forms part of Manulife’s broader strategy to apply AI to customer experiences and was developed in line with its Responsible AI Principles.
“Agentic commerce is quickly becoming a customer preference to find and choose products, and that shift is global,” said Jodie Wallis, Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer, Manulife. “We’ve spent the past several years building the AI and data foundations to move at this speed, and this is the first time we’re putting them directly in front of customers in a conversational channel.”
Manulife and Bupa recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the delivery of healthcare in Hong Kong.
