B2B2C travel technology provider Safe Travel launched the Safe Travel Barometer in August to monitor global traveller health and safety measures. The Safe Travel Barometer has audited over 150 airlines, assessing the Covid-19 health and safety measures that they had put in place to keep passengers and staff safe, both pre-flight and onboard the aircraft.

With a safe travel score of 4.5 (out of five), German airline Lufthansa tops Safe Travel’s leaderboard of the safest airlines to travel on for both travellers and as an airline employee, in terms of its Covid-19 health and safety measures. The airline provides hand sanitiser, carries out thermal screening, insists upon health declaration forms and implements a mandatory bring-your-own face mask policy.

Delta Airlines, Allegiant Air and Indian airline Vistara were all given a safe travel score of 4.4, while UAE airline Emirates achieved a safe travel score of 4.3 – all uphold the same safety measures as Lufthansa. Hawaiian Airlines, AirAsia, Philippines Airlines and China Airlines all achieved a 4.2 ranking from Safe Travel, all making into the Safe Travel Barometer’s top 10 airlines list. You can find a comprehensive list of all the airline rankings here.

“The fundamental premise of the Safe Travel Score is to benchmark travel brands’ initiatives to reduce traveller anxiety,” explains Virendra Jain, Safe Travel Co-Founder and Chief Executive. “Our independent rating, centred on traveller health and safety measures, establishes a baseline for travel brands, while equally offering travellers a glimpse into what they can expect in their journeys.”
