India to resume international commercial flights from February 2022
The new date follows the suspension of previous plans to resume flights from 15 December
India’s Directorate of General Aviation (DGCA) has confirmed that international commercial flights will continue to be suspended until the start of February.
However, the regulator confirmed that ‘international scheduled flights may be allowed on selected routes by the competent authority on case to case basis’.
International flights under the existing bubble agreements currently in place between India and 32 foreign nations will also not be affected by existing restrictions, alongside cargo operations and flights approved by the DGCA.
The new date follows the postponement of previous plans to resume regular commercial flights on 15 December – which was previously announced by the Indian government on 26 November and reversed by the DGCA on 1 December due to concerns regarding the new Omicron variant.
India has heavily restricted scheduled international passenger flights since the start of its first coronavirus lockdown on 23 March 2020.
