Icelandair to offer Covid cover for customers

Airline Icelandair has partnered with insurtech Cover Genius to offer ‘Covid Plus’ cover for their customers
The Icelandair ‘Covid Plus’ Medical Cover will be available through integrating with XCover – Cover Genius’ global insurance distribution platform – and has been specially tailored for Icelandair global customers. It ensures that travellers and their travel companions are covered if they get Covid-19 or another illness or injury while travelling, or if they need medical assistance while they are overseas.
“As a leading international airline, our mission is to offer our passengers the best services both on the ground and in the air. Our integration of Cover Genius’ XCover platform into our booking process means we can now offer our passengers and their travel partners peace of mind during their travel,” said Birna Ósk Einarsdóttir, CCO Sales and Customer experience of Icelandair.
Offering tailored protection to worldwide customers
Peter Smith, Head of Travel Partnerships at Cover Genius, added: “It's been Cover Genius’ mission from the get-go to help the world’s largest technology companies to offer tailored protection to their worldwide customers. We have recently partnered with the likes of Skyscanner, Despegar, Booking Holdings, Intuit, eBay, Wayfair and others who have integrated XCover to embed insurance, including instant payments of approved claims, to make sure that customers get back on their feet quickly when things go wrong.
“We are very excited to partner with Icelandair, a leading airline with its hub in Keflavík, Iceland, with substantial US bookings, who prioritise their customers’ safety and loyalty through the use of our XCover platform, and we look forward to expanding our relationship to restore confidence for travellers all over the world.”
Airlines offering Covid-19 cover could be an important step towards bringing travel back. The International Air Transport Association insists that financially viable airlines will be needed to lead the economic recovery out of Covid.
