The island is the latest casualty of the severe storm, which has caused at least seven deaths

Jamaica has been experiencing power cuts and flooding after Hurricane Beryl struck the Caribbean nation’s southern coast on 3 July.

According to a report by the BBC, “hundreds of thousands of homes” are believed to be without power, while the storm also brought with it 12 hours of heavy rain and flooding. Severe damage to buildings and infrastructure is also believed to have been incurred.

It follows a path of destruction left by Beryl as it passed Grenada, St Vincent and the Grenadines, and northern Venezuela, where at least seven people have been confirmed dead.

While the storm was previously classified as a Category 5 hurricane by the US National Hurricane Center, it has now been downgraded to a Category 3 storm as of 5am Eastern Time (10am BST).
