One person has died, and 15 others remain unaccounted for, while over 60 people have been evacuated from the affected areas
Response efforts are underway in the Grand Canyon, US, following severe flash flooding triggered by heavy rainfall on Saturday afternoon, 29 August. The flooding hit Bright Angel Canyon and the Phantom Ranch area.
According to the National Park Service (NPS), one person has died, and 15 others are still unaccounted for. As of 30 August, more than 60 people had been evacuated, with further evacuations planned.
The flooding has caused significant damage to infrastructure, including footbridges, while large rocks and debris have been swept into the Colorado River.
Flash floods along the Nepal-Tibet border last week have left hundreds missing, with rescue efforts ongoing.
