Subscribers will get unlimited travel throughout the country for €49 a month

Germany’s unlimited monthly travel pass will be available from 1 May 2023.

The Deutschland-Ticket – or D-Ticket – will give travellers the ability to travel throughout Germany on all local public transport for a one-off payment of €49 per month. The ticket will not be valid on Intercity (IC) or Eurocity (EC) trains.

The ticket is only available by subscription, so passengers will need to apply online via the Detusche Bahn website or the DB Navigator app.

However, there is no minimum term for the subscription; travellers can purchase a one-month ticket and then cancel their subscription after obtaining the ticket. Passes are only issued for calendar months, so travellers who have trips overlapping two months will have to buy two monthly passes.

Industry-wide pre-sales are due to begin on 3 April, according to the Deutsche Bahn website, with federal and state governments aiming to introduce the ticket on 1 May.

With Europeans feeling confident about 2023 holidays, this ticket could benefit those wishing to travel throughout Germany from May.
