Flights cancelled at Moscow airports due to drone attacks
This latest wave of Ukrainian drone strikes on the Russian capital has led to a number of flights being cancelled
Moscow’s four airports – Vnukovo, Domodedovo, Zhukovsky, and Sheremetyevo – have announced the cancellation of a large number of flights, following a major drone attack by the Ukrainian armed forces on the Russian capital.
Between 2am and 10am local time, over 30 flights scheduled to depart from Sheremetyevo alone were cancelled, with more delayed.
The strikes, which have caused fires around the city, also led to the evacuation of passengers at that airport to safe locations.
Russian flag carrier Aeroflot has urged passengers to check online departure boards before heading to any of the airports, and advised those whose flights were cancelled to arrange a refund or a new flight remotely.
It is currently unclear if the airports sustained any damage during the attack – one of the largest drone operations conducted by Ukraine since the start of Russia’s invasion in 2022.
Also today, dozens of Ryanair passengers were left behind in Athens after lengthy queues at passport control prevented them from reaching a flight to London Luton.
