Expedia names former Snap finance chief Derek Andersen as CFO
Former Snap CFO Derek Andersen will join Expedia Group next month, bringing experience across technology, ecommerce, and digital media
Online travel agency (OTA) Expedia Group has appointed Derek Andersen as Chief Financial Officer. He will take up the role on 11 May, succeeding Scott Schenkel, who is stepping down after 16 months in the position.
Andersen joins from US technology company Snap, where he served as CFO from 2019 until April 2026. He previously held senior finance positions at Amazon, including supporting the company’s digital video operations.
The appointment comes as major travel platforms continue investing in technology, artificial intelligence, personalisation, and B2B distribution capabilities, while also facing pressure to maintain margins in a volatile operating environment.
Chief Executive Officer Ariane Gorin said Andersen’s experience across “technology-driven businesses” would support Expedia’s next phase of growth and margin expansion.
Large OTAs increasingly play a role in distributing embedded travel insurance products, disruption protection, and ancillary services at the point of booking.
Schenkel will remain with the company through its first-quarter earnings call on 7 May before departing on 16 May.
The company said Andersen would be based in Seattle and report directly to Gorin.
