Europe–Middle East flights impacted by Iran airspace closure
The abrupt closure of Iran’s airspace following its overnight missile attack on Israel on 1 October has affected travel in far-reaching destinations
Various flights were diverted, including an Etihad flight from London Heathrow to the United Arab Emirates, which was initially diverted to Saudi Arabia.
Several Wizz Air flights to Abu Dhabi were diverted, along with Emirates flights to Dubai travelling from Heathrow, Dublin and Birmingham.
Over 80 flights across 16 airlines were affected.
The airspace of Israel, Iraq, Jordan and more were closed on Tuesday night.
A spokesperson for British Airways commented: “Safety and security are always our highest priorities, and we continuously assess and adjust our operations accordingly.”
All four countries have now reopened their airspace.
British Airways recently axed Beijing flights due to the closure of Russian airspace.
