ERGO merges Nordic insurance units to boost regional growth
The new company will focus on delivering comprehensive healthcare and travel insurance solutions to both corporate and retail customers
Munich Re’s ERGO Group AG has finalised the merger of its Danish travel insurance company, Europæiske Rejseforsikring A/S, and its Norwegian health insurance business, ERGO Forsikring AS (formerly Storebrand Helseforsikring AS), creating a unified Nordic entity: ERGO Forsikring A/S. The move strengthens ERGO’s footprint across Denmark, Norway and Sweden and is expected to unlock significant growth potential in the region.
Following the merger, ERGO is combining its travel and health insurance activities under one roof, aiming to build a dedicated growth platform in the Nordic region. The integration is designed to enhance local market presence and support accelerated, profitable growth.
The new company will focus on delivering comprehensive healthcare and travel insurance solutions to both corporate and retail customers. By uniting their complementary strengths in product offerings and market positioning, ERGO intends to leverage joint distribution networks and existing business relationships to facilitate market access and enable cross-selling opportunities across all three countries.
Theo Kokkalas, Chair of the Board of Management of ERGO International AG and Chief Operating Officer of ERGO International, commented: “With the launch of ERGO Forsikring A/S, we will blend local market know-how and insurance expertise with our technical excellence and innovative strengths at Group-level, unlocking considerable growth opportunities and synergy potential across the Nordic region.”
Ronald Kraule, Chief Executive Officer of ERGO Forsikring A/S, added: “As we bring together our respective expertise in the health and travel segments, underpinned by consequent digitalisation, we will act as a one-stop shop for holistic insurance coverage.”
Last year ERGO partnered with telecommunications firm O2 Telefónica to offer embedded insurance to customers in Germany.
