Toffee Insurance will provide cancellation travel cover for EaseMyTrip customers in the event of a medical emergency, which will be available during the ticket booking process

Indian online travel platform EaseMyTrip has partnered with Haryana-based insurance provider Toffee Insurance for the provision of cancellation insurance in the event of medical emergencies.

Under the arrangement, Toffee Insurance will provide an optional, free-of-charge insurance policy to EaseMyTrip customers during the flight booking process which will cover lost booking charges if the traveller is taken ill. This includes any fees deducted by the airlines since payment.

Claims on the policy can be made through the submission of a doctor’s prescription citing the specific medical condition.

Rikant Pittie, Chief Operating Officer of EaseMyTrip, said the partners aim to address ongoing consumer concerns about the potential for medical conditions to disrupt travel plans, following the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.

“We are delighted to partner with Toffee Insurance while we continue to offer our first of its kind, free of charge, full refund medical policy that provides the additional travel flexibility required during such trying times for our customers,” said Pittie.

Part of a growing trend of travel firms entering the insurance world

EaseMyTrip is one of several firms across the travel industry to introduce travel coverage post-Covid, in response to growing demand for protection from travellers.

AirBNB announced in January 2022 that it planned to introduce a new travel insurance product for guests in the spring, alongside offering relief to guests who are ‘unable to proceed with their previously booked reservations due to unexpected travel disruptions caused by government mandates.’

Travel agent Thomas Cook also partnered with Taurus Insurance and travel risk management company Sitata earlier this month, to offer travel insurance, protection and support to holidaymakers.
