Cuba and Mexico launch new multi-destination tourism routes
The new tourism partnership highlights growing demand for cross-border travel insurance solutions covering medical emergencies, healthcare access, and repatriation across multiple destinations
Cuba and Mexico are expanding tourism links with a new multi-destination partnership aimed at attracting more international visitors to the Caribbean region.
Tourism operators Turismo Popular, Taíno Tours, and Presencia Latinoamericana (Prelasa Tours) have signed an agreement to combine Mexico’s ‘Mayan World’ experiences with Cuba’s leading attractions, including Varadero’s beaches, Havana’s cultural heritage, and nature-based tourism offerings.
The first package is expected to launch in August during Cuba’s Josone Festival in Varadero, giving travellers the option to combine Mexico’s archaeological and cultural sites with Cuba’s coastal destinations.
The development is significant for the travel insurance sector as more travellers choose multi-country holidays. Cross-border journeys can complicate access to medical care, emergency assistance, evacuation, and repatriation across different healthcare systems.
While Cuba has a strong public healthcare network, visitors may still need private or specialist treatment, leading to high out-of-pocket costs without adequate insurance. In Mexico, healthcare standards can vary by location, adding further complexity.
The new Cuba–Mexico route reflects a broader trend towards multi-destination travel, increasing demand for comprehensive insurance that covers medical emergencies and pre-existing conditions.
Cuba has been facing a prolonged fuel shortage this year that has triggered widespread blackouts, disrupting essential services and tourism.
