Core Travel launches digital group travel insurance platform with personalised upgrade capabilities

The new platform aims to streamline group travel medical cover administration while enabling travellers to purchase tailored insurance enhancements digitally

Core Travel Insurance has launched a digital platform intended to manage group travel medical insurance programmes and allow travellers to purchase personalised coverage upgrades, reflecting growing demand for more flexible and technology-driven travel protection solutions.

The New York-based provider said the system had been developed in partnership with software company Openkoda to support organisations, brokers, and travellers through a single integrated platform.

The platform includes policy administration tools, broker, and client portals, traveller self-service functions, and digital payment capabilities for optional coverage enhancements.

The companies said it also integrated with third-party administrators and travel assistance providers via application programming interfaces (APIs).

Core Travel specialises in group travel coverage for organisations including educational institutions, corporate travel programmes, and other entities arranging protection for travelling groups.

Under its model, sponsoring organisations provide baseline medical coverage, while individual travellers can purchase additional protections tailored to their itineraries.

Optional upgrades available through the platform include increased medical limits, baggage protection, travel delay cover, and trip extension benefits.

The launch reflects a broader trend within the travel insurance sector towards embedded and modular insurance products that allow travellers to customise coverage digitally while reducing administrative workloads for brokers and policyholders.

Fiona Lally, Chief Executive of Core Travel Insurance, said the company had sought a platform capable of supporting scalable group travel protection while enabling personalised traveller upgrades and maintaining continuity for existing customers.

The system was also designed to support broker distribution by allowing intermediaries to offer traveller-selected add-ons alongside core group policies.

Openkoda said the platform incorporated artificial intelligence (AI) functionality intended to support operational processes, reporting and customer decision-making. The company added that AI tools could assist travellers in evaluating suitable coverage upgrades based on itinerary details.
