Beijing launches travel insurance for international visitors
The new product combines medical and accident benefits with bilingual emergency assistance as China records strong growth in international arrivals
Beijing has launched what authorities describe as mainland China’s first comprehensive travel insurance product designed specifically for international visitors.
The policy is intended to address difficulties faced by foreign travellers requiring medical care while in China and provides cover for accidents, medical expenses, and medical transfer.
It is available to travellers aged from 28 days to 80 years, with coverage lasting up to 30 days.
Policyholders will also have access to 24-hour emergency assistance in Chinese and English. Premiums range from CNY50 (US$7) to CNY490, according to China’s National Financial Regulatory Administration.
The launch comes as China records strong growth in international tourism. Around 61.28 million foreign visitors entered mainland China during the first eight months of 2026, up nearly 20% year on year, with more than 23 million entering under visa-free arrangements.
The product adds a dedicated insurance and assistance option for international travellers as China seeks to accommodate growing numbers of overseas visitors and their healthcare needs.
Elsewhere, Panama has introduced complimentary travel insurance for international visitors as part of efforts to strengthen traveller confidence and support continued growth in inbound tourism.
