Bahrain introduces health insurance requirement for family residency
Bahrain’s new insurance requirement adds a compliance step for family visa applications and corporate relocations
Bahrain has introduced a health insurance requirement for dependants applying for Family Visas or Residence Permits, adding a new compliance consideration for employers, mobility providers, and insurers.
Effective 1 September 2026, the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) requires applicants to hold health insurance from a licensed Bahrain insurer, with cover of at least two years.
Although the LMRA has not issued a formal announcement, the requirement has been applied to recent applications and verified through direct communication with the authority, according to Deloitte.
“Businesses and individuals should prepare to incorporate this insurance prerequisite into their application strategies to ensure compliance,” Deloitte said.
The change could affect family relocation timelines and may increase demand for locally compliant, longer-term insurance policies.
