Amadeus embeds travel protection into hotel bookings
The integration gives hotels new revenue opportunities through embedded insurance and automated weather-related compensation
Amadeus is expanding its travel protection offering into hospitality, enabling hotels using its iHotelier Central Reservations System (CRS) to offer embedded travel insurance and automated weather guarantees.
The integration brings together insurance provider battleface and weather protection specialist Sensible Weather, creating new ancillary revenue opportunities while boosting guest confidence at booking.
Hotels can offer protection without building or administering their own programmes.
“Bringing Amadeus Travel Protection into iHotelier gives hoteliers a new way to offer travellers greater confidence when booking, while creating additional revenue opportunities without adding operational complexity,” said Peter Altmann, Vice President, Mobility and Travel Protection at Amadeus.
Battleface provides cover for cancellations, delays, medical emergencies, and lost baggage, plus 24/7 emergency assistance.
Sensible Weather’s automated Weather Guarantees compensate guests when qualifying weather conditions affect their stay, with refunds of up to 100% and no claims process.
Hotels offering the guarantee have reported an average 11% increase in booking conversion and a 2% reduction in cancellations, according to Amadeus.
“The Weather Guarantee allows hotels to offer an additional layer of reassurance, knowing that if adverse weather impacts their trip, guests are automatically compensated,” said Nick Cavanaugh, CEO and Founder of Sensible Weather.
The move highlights the growing role of embedded protection in hospitality, positioning insurance and weather guarantees as both a means of reducing booking uncertainty and a potential revenue stream for hotels.
