Mexico and major world cities in Europe and Asia continue to dominate the list of popular spring destinations

Allianz Partners has revealed that Mexico continues to be the top international spring destination for US travellers, according to its annual Top Spring Break Destinations report.

The report analysed the itineraries of Allianz Partners customers who purchased travel coverage online, as well as those who booked travel via the websites of the insurer’s travel partners. In total, around 1.3 million itineraries were analysed.

The report found that three Mexican destinations featured on the international list, despite recent gang-related unrest – Cancun, San José del Cabo, and Puerta Vallarta.

Alongside these are major world cities in Europe and Tokyo such as London, Tokyo, and Paris, all of which have been historically popular with US travellers.

American travellers are also seeking island getaways in the Caribbean, with Aruba, the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic, and the US Virgin Islands all featuring on the list.

“Spring break travel is in full swing, with travellers eager to explore both popular beach destinations and iconic cities around the world,” said Emily Hartman, General Manager at Allianz Partners.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has projected that global air passenger demand will more than double by 2050.
