Allianz Partners adds eSIM connectivity to travel insurance plans in APAC

New partnership reflects growing convergence between insurance and digital travel services as insurers seek to deliver value beyond financial protection

Allianz Partners has teamed up with travel technology company Travelgoogoo to offer complimentary global eSIM connectivity with selected travel insurance plans, marking the latest move by insurers to bundle digital services alongside traditional cover.

Access will initially be available to eligible customers purchasing Allianz Travel Insurance directly through the company’s Singapore website, with qualifying policyholders receiving a complimentary 1GB global eSIM alongside membership of Travelgoogoo’s Travel Club.

The partnership gives travellers access to messaging and internet-based voice calling services across 123 destinations without requiring a separate mobile data plan.

Customers can also purchase additional high-speed data through the platform if required.

The launch reflects a wider trend across the travel insurance market, where insurers are increasingly integrating complementary digital services into their propositions to differentiate products and support customers throughout their journeys, rather than solely at the point of claim.

Vinay Surana, Managing Director for Asia Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa at Allianz Partners, said: “Today’s travellers expect a seamless, end-to-end travel experience. Partnering with Travelgoogoo allows us to address the growing expectation for always-on connectivity, enhancing our travel insurance offering to give customers greater confidence and convenience wherever they go.”

Reliable mobile connectivity has become increasingly important in supporting policyholders during disruption or medical emergencies. Access to messaging and internet services can enable travellers to contact emergency assistance teams, communicate with family members, rearrange transport, and access digital policy information while abroad.

Stephen Tan, Corporate Adviser and Travelgoogoo Partner, said connectivity had become an integral part of travel safety rather than simply a customer convenience.

“When something goes wrong overseas, travellers don’t just need insurance. They need to be connected,” he wrote in a LinkedIn post announcing the partnership. “To contact their family. To access emergency assistance. To navigate unfamiliar places. To book alternative transport. To continue working if plans change. Connectivity is no longer a ‘nice-to-have’ – it’s part of the safety net.”

Travelgoogoo said the bundled service removed the need for travellers to swap physical SIM cards or rely on public Wi-Fi on arrival, while allowing customers to monitor their usage and purchase additional data through WhatsApp.

Elsewhere, CoverForYou, Cedar Tree, Outbacker, and Insure & Escape – which are part of the Cover For You Insurance Group – introduced in-app emergency calling and complimentary eSIMs as part of a broader effort to improve communication between travellers and assistance providers when mobile coverage or roaming are unavailable.
