Air Transat responds to customer demand with free medical Covid cover
Air Transat customers who book a roundtrip flight from Canada to an international Air Transat destination will be given free medical travel insurance, including Covid-19 cover
Canadian travel booking firm Air Transat is now offering customers its Covid-19 Emergency Medical Certificate of Insurance, offered through Manulife, should they book a roundtrip of up to 21 days to any of Air Transat’s international destinations from 25 September to 31 October 2020.
The new cover includes up to CA$200,000 per insured person for medical and hospital expenses that may be incurred as a result of a positive Covid-19 test result during the trip, and coverage of accommodation costs caused by quarantine or isolation up to $150 a day per insured person or $300 a day per family, for a maximum of 14 days should the individual test positive for Covid-19 during the trip, up to $150 a day per insured person or $300 a day per family, for a maximum of 14 days.
As long as they were booked within the specified period, departures between 1 October 2020 and 30 April 2021 will be covered by the company’s new medical insurance offering at no extra cost.
Responding to customer demand to facilitate travel
“The travel industry has been transforming at a frantic pace in recent months, and we are listening to our customers’ expectations in order to offer them programmes and solutions adapted to the new realities,” said Annick Guérard, Chief Operating Officer of Transat. “The introduction of a free and automatic Covid-19 medical insurance and assistance plan included in our flights and packages, combined with our rigorous health and safety programme, Traveller Care, demonstrates our desire to allow our customers to carry out their travel plans despite the uncertainties related to the pandemic.”
Wally Thompson, Vice-President, Distribution, Manulife Affinity Markets, which is providing Air Transat customers’ insurance offering, added that the company’s ‘top priority’ remained the health and safety of its customers, employees, partners and communities, and that the new, specialised travel insurance for Canadians was a clear example of this.
