AI integrations gain ground as VisitorsCoverage launches travel insurance protocol server
New technology aimed at AI booking platforms could accelerate automated insurance distribution and reshape digital travel purchasing journeys
VisitorsCoverage has launched a new technology platform designed to allow artificial intelligence (AI) assistants and travel booking tools to access travel insurance products through a single integration, reflecting the growing role of AI in travel distribution.
The US-based insurtech said its new Treppy MCP (Model Context Protocol) server would enable AI-powered travel platforms, booking assistants, and digital concierge services to retrieve insurance quotes and coverage information from multiple providers without requiring separate integrations for each carrier.
The launch highlighted a broader shift within the travel sector as insurers, intermediaries, and technology providers explore how AI agents could influence purchasing behaviour and distribution channels.
Under the system, AI applications can access real-time insurance quotes, compare policies, and retrieve eligibility and coverage information through a standardised interface. The technology is based on Anthropic’s MCP, an emerging framework intended to allow AI systems to interact with external services and data sources more efficiently.
The development underscores growing efforts to embed protection products directly into digital travel planning and booking workflows.
Industry observers have increasingly identified AI-powered assistants as a potential new distribution channel, with consumers using conversational interfaces to research destinations, compare travel products, and complete bookings.
The challenge for insurers has been the fragmented nature of travel insurance integration, which often requires individual connections between distributors and carriers. Standardised interfaces could reduce implementation costs and shorten deployment times for travel platforms seeking to offer insurance products.
VisitorsCoverage said the platform would support a range of AI systems, including commercial and custom-built agents, and provide access to policy information from multiple insurers through a single connection.
The launch follows a series of recent moves by travel insurance technology providers seeking to position themselves within emerging AI-driven travel ecosystems.
