Navigating turbulence: Medjet is strengthening global medical assistance
Musa Gürçay, Managing Director of Medjet Medical Assistance, talks to ITIJ about industry challenges, affiliates, and what’s next for the business
You have been with Medjet Medical Assistance for almost nine years. What are the biggest challenges the industry faces now, that they did not before?
We face many challenges in our sector. The recovery from Covid-19 is still ongoing. Ensuring people can travel without experiencing any health issues, infectious diseases, or pandemics is a truly challenging issue. Furthermore, the ongoing wars in the Middle East are negatively impacting the travel and tourism sectors. I believe that prompt solutions by country leaders will positively impact global trade and travel tourism. As Medjet, our strategic goal is to provide healthcare and travel assistance services to all our corporate customers through a comprehensive service network in the Middle East and European zone.
Medjet has bases and affiliates in more than 50 locations around the world. How important are these relationships and how to do you maintain them?
It is very important working with our service network, and partnerships are crucial for us. Thanks to Medjet’s superior service network, our insured patients can access healthcare and many other travel services free of charge in many countries, including Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas. We aim to advance the development of numerous travel assistance products for our customers in the coming period. We also offer global medical repatriation services to insured clients, including medical escort services, stretcher booking services, and air ambulance and assistance services in many regions. Geopolitical tensions in many parts of the world are affecting the air ambulance industry. How is Medjet coping with these challenges?
Political unrest in many parts of the world is increasing the number of requests from these regions. Recently, we have received significant demand for both medical and non-medical evacuations, particularly from regions experiencing war and conflict. At Medjet, we carefully evaluate all requests and strive to provide our customers with high-quality service to ensure they arrive home safely and happily.
Medjet’s next step is to establish a new growth strategy to become a leading global provider of healthcare and travel assistance. Our primary targets is to focus on the Middle East and Europe and to build new medical networks in these countries.
