Sabrina Morales, Chief Operating Officer at HAS Companies, speaks to the ITIJ team ‎about the company’s role in the industry and how it benefits from an international ‎presence

What role does HAS Companies play in the health insurance industry?‎

HAS Companies plays a key role in the health insurance industry by developing ‎innovative technologies that help insurance providers manage medical risks in real ‎time. Our solutions integrate generative artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and chatbots ‎to streamline processes and improve efficiency.

By leveraging data connections and ‎advanced analytics, we create predictive risk models that cover everything from the ‎subscription phase through to the entire customer life cycle. This combination of ‎cutting-edge technology, personalised services, and tailored products enhances the ‎overall customer experience.‎

You have been with the company for almost 15 years. Tell us about your time there ‎so far?‎

I began my career with the company as an operator. Through hard work, dedication, and ‎continuous training, I was able to advance to the role of COO. With a team that I helped ‎train and develop in-house, we successfully established a holding company that ‎focuses on services such as third-party administration (TPA), cost containment, and ‎white-label solutions for the sector. ‎

Each area, whether it’s international medical insurance, technological development, or ‎cost containment, requires a deep understanding of its specific complexities and ‎demands

By deeply understanding the needs of the health insurance market, we created tailored ‎products and innovative technological solutions. Today, with a team of over 700 people, ‎we can provide assistance worldwide, without any geographic restrictions, and offer ‎international health insurance services on a global scale.‎

What has been the most challenging aspect of your role?‎

I wouldn’t say there’s just one challenge, as my journey with the company has been full ‎of learning and growth. I started as an Assistance Coordinator in 2010 and have worked ‎my way up to this position. Every day presents new challenges, but I’d say the most ‎challenging aspect has been leading people and helping them grow within the ‎company.‎

What has been most rewarding?‎

I believe it has been the ability to lead people to succeed in the industry, as well as ‎maintaining strong client relationships by consistently exceeding their expectations.‎

HAS Companies specialises in many aspects of travel, including international ‎health insurance, technological developments and cost containment. Are there ‎any challenges to working across such a wide range of areas?‎

Yes, working across such a wide range of areas does come with its challenges, ‎particularly in terms of ensuring that each department and initiative aligns with the ‎company’s overall goals and standards. Each area, whether it’s international medical ‎insurance, technological development, or cost containment, requires a deep ‎understanding of its specific complexities and demands. The key challenge is managing ‎and coordinating these diverse functions effectively while still fostering innovation and ‎maintaining quality across all of them. However, this diversity also presents an exciting ‎opportunity for growth and learning, as it allows us to address a broad spectrum of ‎needs and develop integrated solutions that benefit our clients.‎

Are there any benefits to being a company with international scope?‎

Absolutely, there are numerous benefits to having an international scope. First and ‎foremost, it allows us to access a broader market, providing us with diverse ‎perspectives and insights into different regions’ needs, especially in the healthcare and ‎insurance sectors. This global reach enables us to develop more innovative solutions ‎that are adaptable to various markets, which helps us stay competitive and relevant. ‎

Additionally, working internationally strengthens our ability to provide seamless support ‎and service to clients worldwide, ensuring we can meet their needs regardless of ‎location. It also fosters collaboration among our teams across different regions, which ‎enhances creativity and problem-solving.‎

Over the past two decades, what changes have you noticed in the wider industry?‎

The most significant change has been the advancement of technology. The industry has ‎evolved with the digitalisation of services, offering more customised coverage options, ‎and enabling faster coordination and delivery. Technology now allows for immediate ‎responses, and today’s users expect more flexible insurance solutions tailored to their ‎individual needs. The key driver of this change has been innovation, with a focus on ‎providing agile, borderless services that meet the evolving demands of the market.‎

What’s next for HAS Companies?‎

Our focus is on growing alongside our current clients, particularly in the white-label and ‎TPA sectors, and evolving with them as their needs change. We’re also expanding the ‎value proposition of Elite Global Doctor, aiming to improve healthcare access and ‎support the lives of many more people.

Working internationally strengthens our ability to provide seamless support and service ‎to clients worldwide, ensuring we can meet their needs regardless of location

Additionally, we are focused on generating more ‎clients by increasing our presence in the international private medical insurance market ‎with innovative solutions, offering 24/7 service and tailored coverage. ‎

On a broader scale, we’re excited about the new technological solutions we’ve been ‎developing, which will play a key role in attracting new clients and shaping the future of ‎HAS. ‎
