At Redstar Aviation, we take pride in executing complex medical evacuation missions with precision, expertise, and unwavering commitment to patient care. Our latest operation involved the coordinated air transport of five patients from Cienfuegos, Cuba, to Venice, Italy, following a severe mass traffic accident. With our highly skilled medical team, state-of-the-art aircraft, and an extensive operational network, we ensured that each patient received the highest level of care throughout their journey.

Mission overview

On January 16, 2025, a mass traffic accident in Cienfuegos resulted in multiple casualties, five of whom required specialised medical transfer. These patients, diagnosed with various injuries, were stabilised and received hospital treatment before their repatriation flights. The mission was successfully completed through a coordinated co-transport operation.

Patient cases and transfer process

Patient 1 (B2B transfer) – 71-year-old male

The patient was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition with signs of shock and internal bleeding. An emergency surgery was performed to address internal injuries. After stabilising in the hospital for 13 days, the patient was cleared for medical transport. On 29 January he was transferred to the airport via ground ambulance and boarded our air ambulance under continuous medical supervision. Throughout the flight his vital signs remained stable, and his pain was effectively managed. Upon arrival in Venice, he was safely escorted to the receiving hospital without complications.

Patient 2 – 43-year-old female

Sustaining multiple injuries, including fractures and trauma to the head and torso, this patient required close monitoring and specialised transport. On 29 January our medical team facilitated her transfer to the aircraft via a BLS ground ambulance. She remained stable during the flight, with pain levels well controlled. After an uneventful journey, she was handed over to the ground ambulance team in Venice in a stable condition.

Patient 3 – 74-year-old male

Initially admitted in critical condition with head and neck trauma, this patient’s condition stabilised over the following days. On 30 January he was prepared for transport and transferred to the aircraft by our medical team. Preferring to remain seated during the flight, he remained stable with no complications. Upon landing, he was safely handed over to the receiving team at the tarmac.

Patient 4 (B2B transfer) – 67-year-old female

Diagnosed with pelvic fractures, this patient required careful handling and immobilisation during transport.

After receiving inpatient care until 30 January, she was transferred from the hospital to the airport by our medical crew. Throughout the flight her condition remained stable, and upon arrival in Venice she was accompanied to the receiving hospital without incident.
