Finding tenaciousness and excellence within aeromedical services
OneOneAir – Ambulance recently responded to a critical aeromedical mission on a remote island
In the relentless landscape of specialised aeromedical transport, the global need for premium and advanced air ambulance services remains crucial. This highly complex, responsive, and specialised offering can often, however, be segmented by the nuances of insurers, aviation, medical, or hospital needs, to name a few.
But what are the risks in this segmentation and where can it potentially fail?
One area of aeromedical segmentation is aviation. Transportation from one end of the globe to another on a highly specialised jet has aircraft operating through extremely demanding environments. Often with high acuity patients in differing states of criticality and need.
Getting this right takes aviation expertise, accurate planning, clear communication and an intrepid aviation mindset, with redundancies to manage risk, should anything go wrong. Without this, the end-to-end aeromedical service fails, and we all fail the patient.
Emerging as experts in high-risk aeromedical environments is Avcair Aviation Group’s aeromedical division, OneOneAir – Ambulance.
OneOneAir – Ambulance stands as a beacon of innovation and fi rstclass service, delivering unparalleled aeromedical services.
Nimble and quick thinking, OneOneAir – Ambulance commonly operates in remote environments where emergency assistance, if needed, is scarce. For example, the Pacifi c Islands. A lonely place to be when something goes wrong. When carrying a high acuity patient, the margin for error can be like the runway strip itself, razor sharp.
This is, however, where OneOneAir – Ambulance excels. Their operating model is not for the faint hearted and their tenacious pursuit of excellence is exactly what the aeromedical industry needs.
With an excess of 200 international aeromedical retrievals a year, in such isolated environments, OneOneAir is structured around a dedicated team of experts.
The OneOneAir – Ambulance fl eet is supported by its own OneOneAir – Engineering CAR30 operation. This allows for maintenance oversight and support across every mission. Engineers and spare parts are acutely managed and AOG contingencies are consistently assessed.
Singapore and Australian based operations teams standby and track every mission, attuned and ready for action should anything be needed. A robust fl eet of aircraft allow for continuation of aeromedical services at almost any time, with the support of a high-skilled pilot resource group, also on standby.
The astute operation and response to risk carried out by OneOneAir – Ambulance was highlighted recently when responding to critical aeromedical mission on a remote island. On landing, minor runway debris tore a tyre on landing, instantly grounding the Learjet 60.
OneOneAir – Engineering, pilots and Avcair operations team jumped into action immediately. Within two hours Avcair’s Brisbane team were airborne, carrying an aircraft jack, spare wheels, tools, engineers, medicinal back up, oxygen, and food, to this complex destination.
Flying through the night and into the morning, while the pilots rested, the maintenance team got to work as medical crews took shifts on ICU care.
Within 45 minutes the tyre was swapped out, replaced, and the mission home continued as planned.
It is the management of these high-risk situations where Avcair’s OneOneAir – Ambulance is proving to be a new challenger to the market, and a challenger not afraid of hard work.
