some words

Helidosa Aviation Group, the largest private aviation company in Central America and the Caribbean, was founded in 1992 in the Dominican Republic as an executive and tourist helicopter charter company. In 2009 it started to perform air ambulance flights. After the earthquake in Haiti in 2010, Helidosa was asked to help during the disaster relief efforts by servicing the medical evacuation needs and also transporting goods to the disaster area. It is in 2011 when the company welcomes its first airplane, a Citation Bravo, also gaining access to the rest of the continent. A few years after in 2017, the group welcomed their first Gulfstream 400 joining the limited club of intercontinental operators

Helidosa Key Facts

Since Helidosa started, quality and safety have been priority number one. Helidosa proudly wears the colours of the emblems of international clinical, flight operations, training and maintenance auditors. It has an impressive combination of accreditations, being certified by EURAMI, Wyvern Wingman and Argus Platinum, which are the highest classifications of aviation safety and security. Additionally, Helidosa holds both the ISO 9001:2015 and UKAS Management systems ratings.

Q&A with Sergio Abril, Helidosa Aviation Group
What is your experience of working with international travel/medical assistance companies?

I started my career in the Travel Health Insurance industry 15 years ago by owning a cross-border ground ambulance company in Mexico. In 2007 I became involved in the Aviation industry. I focused on medical air transportations and the combination of medicine and aviation fascinated me - and it still does. I started to attend the industry conferences and little by little I got to know the industry better. I joined Helidosa in September 2019

Have the international insurance and assistance companies been a long-time source of business for you?

Our list of partners and clients is quite diverse in Helidosa. We are an official provider for the UN, but we also have had close working relationships with a number of assistance/insurance companies for many years. Having said that, we are seeking to increase our list of insurance and assistance clients. We can add a lot of value with our unique fleet, both fixed-wing planes, helicopters and our worldwide range.

Are you a member of any industry associations?

Yes, Helidosa is a member of several industry associations like the AAMS, the IS-BAO and the NBAA. We are also an accredited provider of the IAG and certified by EURAMI. "You are only as good as you think you are". I think it is incredibly helpful to have someone from outside of your company audit your operation. I am a true believer in quality accreditations and the learning and developing process that entails. Therefore, I also donate time to the same purpose, being one of the elected board members of EURAMI.

What benefits does this bring?

By being an active member in these associations we expose our operation to the highest standards in the industry. We have direct access to the industry trends and best practices that are shared amongst the members. We measure against the industry standards with every recurring audit process we undergo by the certifying bodies. Antoher large benefit of the associations are the partnerships we develop.

What are your short and long-term company goals?

Our short term goals are focused on adding and improving internal processes and procedures. As the writer James Sudakow said, 'never let a crisis go to waste'. We have been making the best of these slow "corona" times accelerating pending and new internal projects. Our long term goals are focused on how to create more brand awareness in the Travel Health insurance industry and grow our active client and partner base. Helidosa adds so much value people and organisations should know about. Our ultimate goal is to help many more patients in need of our services.
