AMI tells us all about its strategic air ambulance base in Malta, its front-line medical services work throughout the pandemic, and its clinics in the Middle East and Africa

AMI Expeditionary Health (AMI), a US company located in Reston, Washington DC, provides healthcare solutions on a global basis. It also has a dedicated, on-call air ambulance service, with a Learjet 45 in ICU confi guration positioned in Malta for short and long-haul transports around the world, 24/7. With AMI’s owned and partnered fi xed-wing air ambulances based in strategic geographic locations to support existing clinical infrastructure, important proprietary projects, and specifi c customer requirements, AMI endeavours to provide faster response times to troubled and challenging areas around the globe.

The base in Malta, with its strategic location in the Mediterranean, gives us perfect access to Africa, the Middle East, and the rest of Europe. From the Malta International Airport, we are perfectly placed to provide fi xed-wing air ambulance services to our client base in Libya, in support of our clinic located in Palm City, Tripoli.

Our Learjet 45, with a fully integrated ICU flight capability, uses a LifePort PLUS tandem stretcher system with duplicate equipment for each patient. Also included is the ability to transport contagious disease cases using our ISO-Capsule. Each medical flight crew comprises a doctor and nurse team (anaesthetist and ICU nurse). All medical staff are in current clinical practice. Our aircraft are flown by experienced flight crew of a Captain and First Officer. The operation is currently going through the NAAMTA accreditation program and hopes to complete this year, Covid-19 restrictions permitting.

Andrew Lee, AMI’s Director of Global Assistance and Medical Evacuations, who heads the team, says: “I am delighted to be involved in developing the global presence of AMI, using our own fleet, and expanding our relationships with our credentialed operators who are keen to be associated with the AMI brand. We are much more than an air ambulance operator, with exceptional skills in providing medical services to international aid organizations, humanitarian concerns, the private sector, and government agencies in a wide range of remote and challenging environments.”

AMI is currently the leading American company on the frontline of Covid-19. We are providing medical solutions and delivering critical services to federal, state, and local governments, as well as transferring patients needing to be moved.

Primary and emergency care can be obtained from our owned clinics in Liberia, Libya, Sierra Leone, South Sudan and Yemen, all supported by our strategically located air ambulance teams.
