foot medical x-ray

In a remote corner of Italy, far from the bustling tourist hubs, a client suffered a painful foot injury that needed immediate attention. That was when she decided to reach out to Redpoint for help.

Redpoint’s travel assistance team received an email from the distressed traveler. She described her situation – the pain in her foot, and her growing concern that it might be a fracture. Her location was remote, making access to modern medical facilities a challenge.

The Travel Assistance team sprang into action, connecting with the client and attempting to gather more information about her situation. They learned that a local doctor had assessed her injury at the hotel, and that there were suspicions of a possible fracture. This was certainly not the kind of souvenir she had planned to bring back from Italy.

One of the first challenges the Redpoint team faced was the realisation that many of the medical facilities in the area were seasonal, and likely ill-equipped to handle a potential fracture. With the client’s health being the top priority, the team swiftly decided to arrange for her to receive proper medical treatment elsewhere.

Going to Geneva

Geneva, Switzerland – a city known for its world-class healthcare facilities – was assessed as being the best option for our client to receive suitable medical treatment. The travel assistance team provided the client with a list of recommended medical facilities in Geneva that were well-suited for her needs.

But the story doesn’t end there. After a facility was selected, Redpoint moved forward to arrange, and cover the cost of, appropriate flights for both the injured traveler and her travelling companion. These flights were carefully timed, departing from Geneva just 48 hours after the injury had occurred – aligning perfectly with the treating physician’s recommendations.

Not only did Redpoint secure their journey, but they also made sure the travellers were supported every step of the way. This included assistance at the airports, suggestions for comfortable and convenient hotel options in Geneva, referrals to nearby pharmacies, and continuous medical consultation advice throughout their stay in the city.

A grateful ending

As the plane soared high above the picturesque Alps, the client and her companion couldn’t help but express their profound gratitude to Redpoint. They had faced a challenging and unexpected situation, but Redpoint’s travel assistance team had been their lifeline throughout.

This remarkable tale serves as a testament to the importance of having reliable travel assistance when exploring the world. It’s a reminder that even in the most remote and unfamiliar places, help can be just an email or a phone call away.

So, the next time you embark on a journey to an exotic location, remember that you’re not alone. Behind the scenes, dedicated teams like Redpoint’s are ready to turn your travel misadventures into stories of resilience, compassion, and ultimately, successful journeys back home.

We also examine factors driving cost increases in medical assistance around the world. Covid ramped up the cost of assistance, but what else has actually changed currently? In this issue we also look at treatment and evacuation options from the Caribbean. Finally, we look into the red flags that insurers need to watch out for when contracting with ground ambulance service providers.
