From sector research to responsible travel, the International Assistance Group (IAG) is turning values into social impact across its global assistance network

With more than 160 partners, providers and correspondents across six continents and over 200 countries, IAG delivers high-quality travel, medical, roadside and security assistance services to over 150 million people each year.

IAG’s commitment to social impact shines through its annual CSR awards, Lucie accreditation and ongoing support for initiatives that make a meaningful difference.

Sector research

In August, IAG hosted a webinar on pre-flight risk stratification for air ambulance missions. Led by Dr Almien Smit, an emergency medicine specialist from the University of Pretoria, the session shared practical tools to help medical teams assess patient stability before transport.

Dr Smit’s Ph.D. research focuses on improving safety during fixed-wing aeromedical transfers. These missions are often life-saving but can expose critically ill patients to serious risks. Her project aims to develop a validated risk tool to help clinicians make safer, clearer and more cost-effective decisions.

Resilience and inclusion

IAG is proud to support adaptive adventurer Darren Edwards. On 7 December, Darren and his team will begin their journey across Antarctica, aiming to reach the South Pole by Christmas using sit-skis and satellite technology to share real-time updates.

This upcoming expedition is part of a broader mission to redefine what’s possible. Through extreme challenges, Darren inspires others to overcome adversity and embrace resilience. His work promotes inclusion and encourages people of all abilities to pursue the extraordinary.

Championing CSR

Each year, IAG celebrates social impact through its dedicated CSR award category – shining a light on assistance companies making a meaningful difference in their communities. Past winners have demonstrated leadership in inclusion, sustainability and ethical care.

Sustainability

IAG partners with Ecologi to support global reforestation and carbon removal through verified climate-action projects. For all IAG events, venues are selected with environmental impact in mind, prioritising sustainability and responsible operations.

IAG encourages responsible travel practices across its global network, supporting providers who prioritise patient safety, cultural sensitivity and environmental stewardship. From carbon-conscious air ambulance missions to inclusive travel protocols, the group advocates for care that respects both people and planet.

UPCOMING EVENTS

IAG members will gather in Paris from 7–10 October for the IAG Global Forum and Roadside Academy. The IAG US Healthcare Summit follows in Miami from 1 December, continuing with an immersive EduTour in the Dominican Republic through to 5 December. Both events offer delegates deeper insights into regional healthcare systems across these popular destinations.

WELCOME NEW IAG PARTNERS

We’re pleased to welcome two new Core Partners to our network: UIA and AMA Global Assistance (India). Congratulations to UIA who are celebrating their 10th Anniversary this year.

This month we examine whether insurers are making the best use of social media to target a new audience. We look at what’s been done, and what more could be done to educate a new generation. We also look at the rise in multi-generational holidays – are insurers able to tailor policies to fit this trend?
