UAE conducts drone medicine delivery trial
Fakeeh University Hospital, UAE, has successfully trialled the delivery of medication via drone from a hospital to a patient’s home
The delivery took place within a 10km radius, with the medicine being successfully transported from the hospital to a residence in Cedre Villas, a gated community in the Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO) free economic zone.
The trial was conducted by Fakeeh University Hospital in collaboration with the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA) and the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF).
Dr Fatih Mehmet Gul, CEO at Fakeeh University Hospital, stated: “We take great pride in being the first in the Middle East to introduce drone delivery of medication at Fakeeh University Hospital at the Dubai Silicon Oasis. Since our establishment, we have consistently embraced technological advancements to provide innovative services.”
In Europe, Nokia recently announced that it was working with telecom provider Citymesh to develop ‘the world’s first nationwide drone network’ in Belgium.
