Over-50s hungry for travel in 2021
Over-50s specialist insurer Saga has experienced a spike in interest from its customers looking for once-in-a-lifetime adventures
In the week following the news of successful trials of the Covid vaccine in the UK, there was a 78-per-cent increase in traffic to Saga’s Traveller’s World website pages and a 36-per-cent increase for the Traveller’s World online brochures compared to the week beforehand. The Traveller’s World is a collection that features long-haul tours.
Following a year where travel has been restricted, many people over 50 are now starting to make plans to explore the world again, with lockdown seeming to have ignited people’s sense of adventure. The most visited webpages in recent weeks include trips on the Trans-Siberian Railway, tours across India’s Golden Triangle and voyages across New Zealand, while Uzbekistan takes the top spot of recent bestsellers.
Saga tours come with Covid-19 cover
Chris Simmonds, Managing Director of Saga Holidays, said: “We know just how much our guests have missed going on holiday this year. As our recent web traffic shows, it seems many have spent this time daydreaming about the exciting adventures that they want to go on as soon as they are able to do so.”
The Escorted Tours in the ‘Once-in-a-lifetime’ collection by Saga comes with the added peace of mind of Saga’s Reassurance Promise, which includes Covid-19 cover insurance, flexible cancellation cover and safe travel assurance, as well as the Saga Price Promise, which ensures that if the price reduces after the booking, customers will automatically receive a refund for the difference.
Saga extended its Covid-19 cover for new and renewing travel insurance customers last summer. The policy update allows customers to claim up to £10,000 if they need to cancel their holiday due to a positive Covid-19 test in the 14 days before their drip departure date.
