Singapore healthcare company Raffles Medical Group has opened its first hospital in China – Raffles Hospital Chongqing – which, as the name suggests, is located in Chongqing. The tertiary hospital, which comprises 700 beds, is fully owned by Raffles Medical Group. Executive Chairman of the Group Dr Loo Choon Yong said that China presents more opportunities for the Group to expand in other cities: “They are now more used to international hospitals operating. The rules are becoming clearer, and therefore it will be easier.” Raffles Hospital Chongqing hopes to attract international patients as well as locals and expats, meaning that fewer China-based patients will seek treatment elsewhere, with Dr Yong explaining: “Traditionally, you see that people go out of the country for treatment, those who want to choose treatment in the West.”
