Morocco extends travel ban
Morocco has extended its travel ban until the end of the 2021, according to the UK Foreign Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO)
The destination initially put the travel ban in place for 29 November - 13 December in response to the Omicron variant. The Moroccan government extended the suspension of all flights and ferry services to Morocco until 11:59pm on 31 December.
The FCDO said: “The UK government is not currently planning to arrange any repatriation flights as some airlines including Air France, Transavia and Royal Air Maroc have been authorised to operate flights out of Morocco to European countries.
“British travellers are strongly advised to check airline websites and to make bookings direct with the airline for flights to Europe and onward connections to the UK.”
UK visitors were originally banned from visiting Morocco in October due to concerns about escalating Covid rates. This ban also applied to travellers from Germany, Netherlands, and Russia.
Meanwhile, travel insurance comparison site Squaremouth.com has reported a 53-per-cent increase in travel insurance sales following the news of the Omicron variant.
