Kenya introduces electronic travel authorisation
Foreign nationals, regardless of nationality, can now stay in Kenya visa-free for up to 90 days
The government of Kenya has announced the introduction of a new electronic travel authorisation (ETA) system, which came into effect on 1 January. An ETA costs US$30, with processing taking up to three business days.
All international travellers from countries outside of the East African Community (EAC) are required to purchase an ETA. All EAC citizens are exempt from the requirement.
The ETA is only valid for one trip, and travellers subject to the requirement must obtain a new one before each visit to Kenya.
The launch of the ETA coincides with the introduction of a visa waiver which permits travellers visiting the country for business or tourism to stay in the country for up to 90 days without applying for a visa, regardless of nationality.
Last month, ITIJ reported that Indonesia was planning a visa-free entry scheme covering nationals from 20 countries.
