Indian Cabinet approves student residency agreement
The international agreement would allow Indian students to reside in Italy for one year to gain professional experience
An agreement to allow Indian students to apply for a one-year residency in Italy has received approval from the Indian government’s Union Cabinet – an important step towards ratification.
Known as the Migration and Mobility Agreement, the inter-governmental collaboration was signed on 2 November by S Jaishankar, the Indian External Affairs Minister, and Antonio Tajani, the Italian Foreign Minister.
The agreement will offer temporary residence in Italy for one year after the completion of their studies to gain professional experience. It allocates quotas for non-seasonal and seasonal Indian workers for the years 2023, 2024, and 2025.
Additionally, The Times of India reports that the agreement ‘also addresses the facilitation of recruitment of Indian qualified professionals in the healthcare and medical services sectors’, while outlining and formalising the intention of both governments to ‘fight against irregular migration’.
The two governments have established a joint working group to ensure the effective implementation of the agreement’s terms.
Tata AIG General Insurance Company recently announced that it will offer travel insurance to passengers of Air India under a new partnership.
