Faz Subhani, Head of International Business at Penfield, talks to ITIJ about acquisitions, cost containment, and their fresh new company branding

You have been with Penfield for almost two years. What does your current role involve?

My current role involves leading on international business development and marketing, and welcoming new international clients to Penfield. Penfield have an enviable reputation for excellence in client satisfaction and are regarded as one of the key industry leaders for US medical cost containment, claims negotiations, medical assistance, second medical opinions and medical bill reviews (MBRs). Penfield are renowned for securing the maximum levels of savings for our clients, and producing forensic reports by our team of expert negotiators and clinical teams.

Penfield have just acquired a subrogation company. Can you tell us more about this acquisition and why it’s important for the business?

Yes, that is correct, and we are very excited to be adding this additional string to Penfield’s bow. Penfield have worked closely with Doug Clement and his team at TCS for a number of years, and their business ethos closely matched Penfield’s by providing industry-leading solutions for our clients, in a very professional and friendly way. Due to this congruence and alignment, it made perfect commercial sense to acquire TCS and have the TCS team join Penfield’s family. We are delighted to offer our clients and prospects the full suite of services, and have Penfield as their default ‘go to’ provider. Already a significant number of our clients have benefitted from our subrogation expertise.

Medical cost containment is a large part of Penfield’s business. Can you tell us about some of the challenges you face when dealing with claims, and how you overcome them?

The Penfield team are renowned for being tough negotiators on behalf of our clients. Our negotiators have, on average, over 19 years’ experience working in this speciality, and so have experienced most scenarios, and have overcome them to benefit our clients. Negotiating can be tough on relationships with hospitals and medical providers. Penfield has found the perfect solution for this, and we have signed agreements on almost 100% of the payments that Penfield issue to providers, ensuring the providers are happy and there are no disputes.

Another challenge is the time it can take to get the full and correct details for the cases we are negotiating on, so that we can do the very best job on each case. Because of the depth of experience and expertise our colleagues have, and because we have worked closely with all of the main hospitals and facilities across the whole of the US, we know the best and quickest routes to get each case successfully completed to benefit all involved.

alignment, it made perfect

You have offices in the US, South America, Canada, as well as in the UK. Why is this important?

This excellent level of global coverage means that our clients can contact us 24/7 and 365 days of the year. Our clients also benefit from having the direct phone numbers of a selection of the Penfield team, so that any questions and cases can be answered at any time. Our clients love the fact that they know the names, phone numbers and direct email addresses for their dedicated Penfield team, that they are fully contactable, and Penfield are here to ensure the very best services for our clients.

What’s next for Penfield?

This is a very exciting time for Penfield particularly considering the new company branding, corporate website and recent acquisitions in the last 12 months. Penfield have experienced excellent levels of growth in the last two years, and welcomed significant new clients, who are enjoying their move to us.

We will continue to delight our existing clients with the successes they achieve through working with Penfield, as well as welcome more new clients. We have an industry reputation for being very professional, approachable, transparent and decent people to work with, which is why so many companies are choosing to be our clients. We are very happy to share real-life examples of success stories of recent cases, that clearly demonstrate the value we bring to our clients, and please contact me if you would like to receive these and also to talk about how Penfield can benefit your organisation.
