Mapfre Assistance launches cruise cover

Company brief

Mapfre Assistance/L’Européene d’Assurances Voyages (Mapfre) relaunched Speciale Croisières in January, its product designed to cater to the needs of cruise passengers. The cover has been extended and adapted in response to the needs of these travellers, said the company.

Mapfre explained that it had conducted a study into cover required by cruise passengers in partnership with cruise specialists, including Nissazur Croisiclub, Outremers, CroisiEurope and Cap Croisières. Among the changes are an extension to cancellation cover, which now includes cancellation by a cabin partner and cancellation of activities booked with the cruise line. In terms of medical assistance, insured passengers can seek onboard medical advice without preauthorisation from the insurance company.

Cover limits have been increased to better meet real current costs. An addition to covered risk is missed boarding or cancellation of departure due to closure of a port in case of force majeure.
