According to UK news outlet The Mirror Online, police in Majorca have carried out several raids, and made arrests, in connection to fake tourist sickness claims on the island. It is reported that a number of UK residents are among those detained.

The searches were carried out in homes and business addresses in the Puerto Portals marina, Benidat area and San Agustin. It is believed that six people in total have been arrested.

The investigation started after private detectives were hired by the Macs Hotel Group, which operates on the island, to investigate food poisoning claims made by guests. The group says that it received 273 claims from around 800 guests, but that only 32 guests had been to see a doctor on their holiday about the complaints.
